“It’s not like that. Carter and I are friends. Just friends.”

“I know you were out at his place the other night. I thought—”

“It’s not like that,” she emphasized.

“Yes, it is,” Carter corrected, strolling into the room. “Hey, Doug. Morning, Doc.”

She looked around for an object to throw at him. From the wink Carter threw her way, she guessed he had a good idea of exactly what her intentions were. He wasn’t that charming. She refused to smile.

“No, it’s not,” Henley argued. Doug stood there, his expression miserable. The grin Carter wore implied he found her amusing. She eyeballed the stapler and wondered how much damage it could inflict if propelled.

“You know, Doc, hitting an officer of the law is as much a criminal act here as it is in Cleveland.” Yeah, he had her number.

“Take off that star then.” Turning up her nose, she sat with as much dignity as she could muster.

My Review

5 ***** – Healing Hearts

Becky Flade did a great job with Fated Hearts. She balanced out humor, intelligence and emotions. She fleshed out the characters in a way that makes them jump off the story and grab your attention, never letting go. The well-written plot, with its many twists, hooked me up from page one and kept me going until the very last one. I couldn’t get enough of Henley and Carter’s story.

I don’t write spoilers, so the only thing I’ll say is that Fated Hearts is a story about second chances, the ones you give yourself, and healing.

I recommend this book to readers looking for a new, refreshing voice in this genre.
