“You’re gay?” Niall’s voice cracked.

“You’re surprised?” Michael forced himself to smile. “I don’t wear it on my sleeve, but I prefer cock to pussy.”

“I’m shocked.” Niall settled in his seat and let go of the wheel. “All the girls love you, and the moms all line up to see you during conferences. Every time I look over there when you’re with parents, you seem to enjoy the female adulation.” He turned the car off and lowered his gaze. “Sorry. That’s rude. I assumed you were straight, and now I’m bashing you.”

“You’re not the first to assume and not the first to say what’s on your mind.” He debated what to say next. He needed to move with caution. “I’m gay and I’m attracted to you.”

“And you want to go on a date with me.” Niall finally looked at Michael. “I can’t believe you’re into me, but I’m all for it.” He grinned, although the tips of his ears were red. “When? I’m free pretty much every day once the staff meetings are over tomorrow.”

“How about Thursday night?” He’d prefer Friday night, but he was supposed to be leaving Friday midmorning.

“I’m free Friday. We could go then?”

“I’m busy on Friday.” He wanted to tell Niall the truth, but he couldn’t. No way he’d disclose his secret yet.

“Another guy?” Niall lowered his gaze again. “I should’ve known.”

“It’s not like that. I only date one person at a time.” He eased his hand free from the carrier. “I’ve got a second job, and I need to be at that Friday night.”

“Oh.” Niall covered his face with his hands. “I’m so…sorry. I speak before I think, and it gets me into trouble.” He glanced over at Michael. “What the hell? Why not?”

“You’re unsure.” Michael wanted to keep questioning Niall, but they were late in getting the food to the other staff members. “Clue me in after the meeting?”

“Don’t have to wait that long.” Niall opened his car door. “I’m crap at dating. I’ve only had one boyfriend, and we didn’t really…date.”

“All sex, all the time?” Not that so much sex with Niall didn’t sound wonderful. He wanted to be the man tangled up with Niall between the sheets.

“With Kurt when it was good, it was great. When it was bad, it was over.” Niall shrugged. “If you’re willing to give me a chance and to take things slow, we’ve got a shot.”

He grabbed Niall’s hand and squeezed his friend’s fingers. He needed to act on instinct and not fight his attraction to Niall. “Then let me give you a better perspective.” He leaned across the console of the car and kissed his friend. Sparks shot through his body, and his lips tingled. He never should’ve waited this long to give in to his crush.

Niall moaned and opened to him, allowing Michael to suck on his tongue.

Niall grabbed the front of Michael’s shirt. He broke the connection first and gasped for breath. “I like the new perspective.”

“That doesn’t have to be the only kiss.” Michael rested his forehead against Niall’s. “Come over tonight.”

“After the meeting, I’m all yours.” Niall let go of Michael, and when he climbed out of the car, he wobbled a bit. He wandered around the front of the vehicle and grabbed the bags from between Michael’s knees.

Michael didn’t bother to hide the smile. This was the start of something great, and he couldn’t wait to get through the meeting. He wanted so much more of Niall Grayson and in every way possible.

When she’s not writing the stories in her head, Megan Slayer can be found luxuriating in her hot tub with her two vampire Cabana boys, Javier, Luke and Jeremy. She has the tendency to run a tad too far with her muse, so she has to hide in the head of her alter ego, but the boys don’t seem to mind.

When she’s not obsessing over her whip collection, she can be found picking up her kidlet from school. She enjoys writing in all genres, but writing about men in love suits her fancy best. The cabana boys are willing to serve, unless she needs them. She always needs them. So be nice to Javier or he will bite–on command.

She also masquerades under the name Wendi Zwaduk and is published through Loose ID Publishing, Liquid Silver Books, MLR Press, Resplendence Publishing, Totally Bound Publishing, Ellora’s Cave, Changeling Press and Decadent Publishing.

Please welcome guest author Celeste Grande’s blog tour. She wrote a lovely guest post for us about her writing process! ENJOY!

by Celeste Grande

My writing process is unique. I work a full time “day” job in Manhattan that requires a two hour commute each way. This is both a blessing and a curse. It’s four hours of my life every day that was essentially wasted…until I started writing. Live Me was completely written while commuting during those four hours…enter where it became a blessing. It’s not quiet by any means, but I tend to block it out and think that the outside noise around me actually serves as a better atmosphere for me. I’ve tried to write in quieter conditions and it doesn’t seem to flow as easily. However, I have an equally hard time trying to write while I have music on, even if it’s a song inspiring a scene. I’ll have to pause as I go.

So, I hand-write. I’ve tried to type, but again, it just doesn’t flow comfortably for me. Possibly because I really am a crappy typist. So I find myself going back to correct words and then losing my train of thought and where I was or what exactly I wanted to say.

I then type what I’ve written during my lunch hour at work. It makes everything take longer, but it also allows for extra editing because while I’m typing, I’m fixing and thickening the scenes.

After it’s typed, I print out the chapter so I can read it on paper and I take a red pen to it. By the time it gets to my CP, it’s already been through essentially two rounds of edits by me. Then I make the CP’s changes and then I send it out to betas. (This could all be why Live Me took three years to write and edit and release)

I am a mix between a plotter and a pantster.  I need to have down the major happenings of a story, but then I just write. I don’t stick to guidelines of what’s to happen in each chapter and I often find my very bold characters changing where I wanted to go with things anyway. 😉

After ALL of that, I have two editors, one who does more than one round, and a proofreader. Phew! That’s a lot of work for words, yeah?

Celeste Grande grew up loving words. From an early age, it was easy for her to open her heart through pen and paper and come away with something poetic. She never thought anything more than releasing her emotions would come of it though. A workaholic that can’t keep still, in her ‘real’ life, she’s a Certified Public Accountant who dreams of writing sexy books all day long. When she isn’t working, she’s reading, writing, mommying and being a wifey to the love of her life.
She lives in New York, still putting pen to paper and anxiously awaiting the debut of her first novel, Live Me, a new adult romance, in October of 2015.

(Review will be posted to Amazon & B&N after release day)

5/5 STARS – Great book about love and second chances.

I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Before I started reading this book, a questions intrigued me – who is ‘the kind of woman who has an affair’ as the blurb puts it? Is there such a thing as a kind of person who has affairs? I’ve always thought that circumstances might lead a person to that kind of situation but never thought that cheating could be perceived as a personality trait.

Apparently, that’s also the idea behind ‘Devil’s Playground’. One shouldn’t judge another person’s behavior before all the facts are revealed, and that’s my advice for potential readers. Don’t judge this book only by the blurb and definitely don’t judge it by personal concepts of fidelity. I’ve always thought cheating was wrong and although the author didn’t make me change my mind about this, she actually made me realize things are not as black and white as I’d like to think they are. Since I’ve never been in the same spot as the characters in ‘Devil’s Playground’ are I can’t say they’re wrong. Circumstances did put them together and they did fight temptation at first. Moreover, this book isn’t about infidelity, it’s about losing oneself and finding one’s way again. It’s about second chances and love. It’s about feelings and family. If you doubt me, read the last two paragraphs of the acknowledgments. Well-done, Eliza Freed. I can’t wait for The Lion’s Den.

5 eBooks of THE DEVIL’S PLAYGROUND (nook or kindle)

The Devil’s Playground by Eliza Freed
(The Faraway Series, #1)
Publication date: November 10th 2015
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Former U.S. Attorney, Meredith Walsh, took some time off to raise her children. But the time took away everything she once trusted about herself. She’s lost within the mundane confines of her children’s schedules of lacrosse, soccer, Cub Scouts, and math facts. Desperate for a sliver of her former passion, and isolated in the small town her corporate husband relocated her to, she counsels herself on risking her family for the rush of a fling.

But Vincent Pratt, the local chief of police, weakens Meredith’s abhorrence of affairs and her dedication to her family. With him, she finds a new version of herself, one capable of contributing in her new world, and thriving in her lonely home. In spite of the fact, she’s not the kind of woman who has an affair.

Eliza Freed graduated from Rutgers University and returned to her hometown in rural South Jersey. Her mother encouraged her to take some time and find herself. After three months of searching, she began to bounce checks and her neighbors began to talk; her mother told her to find a job.

She settled into Corporate America, learning systems and practices and the bureaucracy that slows them. Eliza quickly discovered her creativity and gift for story telling as a corporate trainer and spent years perfecting her presentation skills and studying diversity. It’s during this time she became an avid observer of the characters we meet and the heartaches we endure. Her years of study have taught her laughter is the key to survival, even when it’s completely inappropriate.

She currently lives in New Jersey with her family and a misbehaving beagle named Odin. An avid swimmer, if Eliza is not with her family and friends, she’d rather be underwater. While she enjoys many genres, she has always been a sucker for a love story…the more screwed up the better.

Pretty When You Cry

SBB_PrettyWhenYouCry_Banner copy

The bed is the largest one I’ve ever seen, but somehow too small for two people. Too small if one of the people is Ivan. He’s physically large and, more than that, terrifying. What will he do to me? I can’t fight him. God, I’m not sure I want to try. Home.

In the end I push back the heavy blankets, almost as thick as my sleeping pallet in Harmony Hills, and climb onto the bed. The pillow is perfectly soft, so clean, and I let myself drift away. I’m floating on a cloud, plush and high up.

I dream in those moments. I dream about color and light. I dream about the sky.

There is a deep voice from above and all around me, telling me to get on my knees. Commanding me to pray. This is the first time in my life I’ve ever skipped bedtime prayers. The first time I haven’t begged for salvation. I’m not going to beg, not ever again.

The hand on my face doesn’t feel angry. It isn’t a slap for my insolence. It strokes down my temple and cups my cheek. My eyes flutter open. Ivan.

His hand falls away.

“Candace,” he says in the same deep voice of my dream.

And there’s a look in his eyes, the same look Leader Allen gives Mama. The same look he started giving me. That look is the reason Mama sent me away.

“You’ll stay here,” he says softly. “I don’t want you to dance, but you can stay.”

The allure of it beats through me, a heart of its own, thumping away to a dream that isn’t mine. Safety. Home. I want those things, but I want freedom more. I want the flash of lights and of skin. I want the power those women had onstage.

Ivan wants to put me in a cage, but what I really want is to fly.

“Okay,” I lie, because one sin becomes many. Leader Allen taught me that, and he was right. I’ll convince Ivan, though. One day I’ll dance on that stage, and Ivan will watch me.

One day he’ll teach me everything there is to know.

“Good girl.”

The praise washes over me, undeserved and darkly pleasurable, a stroke along my spine. It feels good, but I know what it is. A trap. A chain around my ankle to keep me on the ground. In this moment, it locks me so tight that I’d accept anything he did to me. If he were to touch me the way the woman with the kind eyes meant. The way Leader Allen touches Mama during prayer.

Ivan leans down, and I hold my breath. Large hands take hold of the blanket, lift slightly. I feel everything between us—anticipation and denial, lust and fear corded together. We feel them together, breathe them in through the air, pulse them with each beat of our hearts. It’s a kind of knowledge, this feeling, connecting a thousand nerve points to the core of my body. This is what he meant by teaching me. This and so much more.

Then he pulls the blanket higher, tucking it around me. “Good night,” he says, eyes glittering in the dark.

He is silver and light, made even brighter by the shadows behind him. It’s strange, the disappointment I feel that he isn’t going to touch me. He isn’t going to teach me. Not tonight. “Good night,” I whisper back.

Then he’s gone, shutting the door against the dark, locking me in. And I slide away into sleep, without dreams, without color, with only the shameless black of contentedness, knowing I am safe for the night.

$15 Amazon or B/N GC

I came from a place of dirt floors and holy scriptures. They told me the world outside is full of sin, and the first night I escape, I know it’s true. Ivan saves me, but he does more than that. He takes me. He makes me his own girl.

My conditioning runs too deep. Ivan sees what I am.

That’s the thing about showing a mouse to a cat. He wants to play. And it’s terrifying, even for me. Because the only thing darker than my past is his.

That’s why on February 21, 2015, after reading Bethany Turner’s blog – here –  and finding out about her Marquee Monday Project, where she dedicates her blog to promoting authors instead of herself, I decided to do something similar.

You should check the previous featured authors because they’re great people, supportive of other authors and you’ll find great reads by each one of them: Harmony Kent, Jennifer Hinsmann Jason Greenfield, and Dalia Daudelin.

I’ve been meaning to profile this lady for a while, but life kept getting in the way. haha She is an amazing writer and an honest and generous reviewer. She was one of the first people who accepted my request to review my erotica short-stories (something which is never easy to come by) for the awesome website Inked Rainbow Reads

Now, finding a picture of her to include here wasn’t very easy, but I did some digging in her Facebook Page archives (felt a bit like a stalker – yikes! – haha) and found the one I posted above. I loved how shy yet smart she looks. 😀

Giveback Wednesday is about me promoting other authors who are not only talented but who support other authors as well. Rachael fits both categories to perfection. And while researching for this post, I saw the picture below on her Facebook timeline. It is SO TRUE!! But I’d just add that if you really don’t like a book, don’t trash it without mercy. For an author, it’s like beating up one of their kids and you don’t want to cross a parent, right? LOL

Here’s a chance for you to follow the message above. Read and review Rachael’s newest release!! It sounds HOT, HOT, HOT! 😀

Being born into slavery, I never thought my owner, my very mother, would sell me. And she didn’t.

Until Matteo.

I was tormented, struggling to come to terms with my new life then he narrowed it down to two things.
Pleasure. Pain.
The man confused me at every turn with his unexpected and unattainable desires.
If only he’d speak to me.
If only he’d tell me how to avoid upsetting him.
If only I could please him.

**Disclaimer: This is a DARK erotic Italian Mafia story. There are twisted behaviors in this book not everyone will be able to handle. Explicit, violent, and sexual scenes are involved. Not for the wary of heart.**

If you don’t like Mafia stories, don’t despair!! Rachael has ALL KINDS of stories to offer you. And any book you pick will be a delight as her spotless review averages can assure you! None of her titles has an average below 4.1 on Amazon US. It’s no small feat considering erotica books usually don’t get a lot of reviews. I wonder if people don’t have the courage to admit they read it… but, that’s a subject for another blog. haha

Mother by day. Writer by night. I spend a majority of my day with my children and reading while my nights are filled with the sound of the keyboard as I work on my next work.

I have written in nearly every LBGT category as well as the traditional erotic romance category.

I love to try new things and learn from every piece of work I write. I’ll write just about anything once to learn from it. I’ve even ventured out of my normal erotica genre into Monster Erotica. Doubt you’ll find me writing anything not erotic as you can barely get me to even read something out of that category, but then again, you never know what I might try next.

Never stop learning. Try everything at least once.

However, in August I didn’t post it when I should have – I apologize for that – but I guess you’ll forgive me for that because I’m going to give you a treat. 😀 I’ve been meaning to feature this awesome writer on my blog for a while but she is a BUSY lady and I can’t organize my time to do all I plan to so… you get my meaning.

Giveback Wednesday is about me promoting other authors who are not only talented but who support other authors as well. And that is why I couldn’t thank Dalia enough for all she’s done for me and other writers even if I posted about her every day for the rest of my life. haha You see, she’s the reason I’ve become a writer and she has always been there for me when I needed her, be it helping promote my books, giving me advice, showing me the pitfalls and traps along the way, but most of all she was the first to encourage me and to see  potential in my writing. This kind of support is PRICELESS.

Now, I cannot post all her books here simply because there’s not enough room hahaha She has published hundreds of short-stories, how-to’s, bundles… and you should check out ALL of them because they are brilliant.

Living in a Post-Kindle Unlimited World

August 6, 2015 For Authors Dalia Daudelin

I loved Kindle Unlimited for the 6 or so months I was in it.

I made $12,000 in January, and most of that was from borrows. That money helped me move out, and it got me thinking about finally starting a family.

Then Kindle Unlimited turned 1, and things changed. You probably know the details. KU now pays per page read, which could have been fine… if I was writing novels.

But I’m not. I’m writing short stories. It’s what I’m good at, and it’s what I’ve built my business on. Novels are a goal for me, it’s true. I would love to one day have a pen name just for erotic novels, but for now that isn’t a possibility for me.

Here’s how I’m surviving in a post-KU world:

I left Kindle Unlimited

Yep, I left Kindle Select, and with it I escape the exclusivity agreements. I emailed Amazon to remove all 500+ books from Select, and started the long process to upload them to other retailers.

That process is still ongoing, and with it came a huge dip in earnings. But that’s okay. I can weather 3 or so months of bad sales before I really have to sweat it, and things get better every day.

I try to upload 4 eBooks to Barnes and Noble and 8 to 20 eBooks to Smashwords every day. So far, flooding them has been valuable.

I told Twitter

I am not exactly a fan of social media… but I found myself on Twitter, tweeting about #strikekindleunlimited and#releasetherate. In that time, I’ve gained around 2000 followers and started a real dialog with my followers there. I have since put in the effort to be active there and on my Tumblr.

I’m not sure how much it’s helping sales, but I do feel better knowing I’m not alone in this.

I did a cover update

Actually, I started my cover update a few days before the July 1 change to Kindle Unlimited. Still, the new covers are better than ever, and have the added benefit of putting those books back on the New Releases pages.

I vowed to work hard

I don’t take more than one day off a week. I upload as much as my hands and wrists can handle without burning and hurting the rest of the day. I work on this website a little bit more every day. I’m planning branding updates and changes, and my down time is spent researching branding and SEO tips.

I like that this job usually lets me work and hour or two a day, but after my whole catalog has been set on fire and my world imploded, I knew it meant I either had to fight or die. I chose to fight. I know a few authors who chose to die.

Neither is the “right” answer, but I chose the right answer for me. I love writing, and I’m not going to give it up just because we’re back to a seller’s market instead of a renter’s market.

I’m confident that authors can still succeed in this business. We need only work hard, write faster, and learn how to sell again.

That’s why on February 21, 2015, after reading Bethany Turner’s blog – find it here –  and finding out about her Marquee Monday Project, where she dedicates her blog to promoting authors instead of herself, I decided to do something similar.

July is the third month I’m doing this and it’s been a blast so far. The first two authors featured here were awesome writers and very supportive Rave Reviews Book Club members Harmony Kent and Jennifer Hinsmann.

This time, I’m introducing someone I met online and who has become a dear friend in person as well. We met a little over a year ago because of his amazing project called One Million Project – check the page here. Last November when I visited the UK we had a chance to meet he introduced me to other OMP contributors. Please, welcome

Well, Giveback Wednesday is not only about me promoting other authors but mainly about promoting talented writers who are supportive and helpful towards other writers as well. Let’s see if you agree with me that Jason Greenfield fits the profile! LoL

Jason is putting together a collective work called One Million Project with 24 short-stories written by himself and other authors and illustrated by different artists. It’s been a beautiful and rewarding experience because the book will be made available for free on Amazon and sponsors will donate £1 per download to selected charity projects. Is this great or what?

But Jason hasn’t stopped at that. He also created a Facebook group so that fellow writers can network and promote their books – The Writer’s Network.

See why he became a good friend of mine? hahaha

Besides, Jason is a very talented writer who described himself like this on his Amazon Author Page:

“I’m a writer and creative type. Got a literary agent and working on getting a deal.

So far my completed novels are:

Forever Torn (factual fiction bio of my Grandfather’s fascinating life. This one got me my agent who called it ‘compelling and gripping.’) Completed 2010 and my debut novel on Amazon Kindle.

Is God An Ethiopian sitting in a Very Large Chair? (Absurdist comedy, space opera sci-fi fantasy) Finished when i was 17.

The Dashing Blade (slightly steampunk, historical swashbuckling comedy/straight action adventure. First in a series) completed circa 2004.

Found Money (journal meets bold social experiment.) Completed 2011

The Unseen Man (sci-fi, superhero fantasy adventure with a Goodfellas meets Conan meets Avengers twist) Completed 2012.

Currently working on – Vampire Nation (vampires!)”

So far, Jason has published Forever Torn – which is currently a #1 Best Seller in Biographical Fiction on Amazon UK and during the month of July his second novel will be available – The Unseen Man. I’ll include a link here as soon as it’s live. I’m reading the book and I can guarantee you that it’s epic! You’ve never seen anything like The Unseen Man before – pun intended.
