We pulled into the underground parking at King Security and Luke parked the SUV in line with several other huge black Ford Expeditions. It appeared King Security had its own fleet.

Unable to stop myself, I blurted, “You were with Anna when you were undercover with my father, weren’t you?”

Luke pulled the keys from the ignition. In the deafening silence I didn’t think he was going to answer. Then he turned to me and bit out. “Yes!”

Wow! I didn’t expect him to be so honest. I sat back and folded my arms, tight. Damn, his answer hurt me. “So you make a habit of lying to your women? Being with them while you’re pretending to be someone you’re not? Is that your thing?”

“She wasn’t my woman,” Luke growled. “She was just a woman. She was there, I was there. It was never deep and it sure as hell wasn’t forever. Then it was over, and I made certain she was clear of the investigation. That was it.” He leaned towards me and said impatiently, “That tell you what you want to know?”

“Not even close. You made love to her didn’t you?”

“Hell no!” Luke snarled. “I fucked her. Like I have all the other women in my life. There’s only one woman I ever made love to Katya. And that was you.”

I went rigid, stunned into silence. Luke turned to open his car door. “You didn’t make love to me, Michael did,” I whispered.

MY REVIEW

5 ***** – Equal parts of sexy action and just plain action

For starters, I just love dual/multiple POV stories so I had a blast with this book. I love getting inside the head of different characters in a story in a way that I can have a better picture of what’s going on. That’s always a plus! In Luke’s Redemption’s case, I thought it very creative how the author employs first person for Katya’s POV while third person for other characters’. Anni Fife does it skillfully and clearly so there’s not that horrible head-hopping feeling you might get from changing perspectives. It’s a very hard thing to accomplish, and for a first novel, Anni was brave to try it. Yet she succeeded.

I’ve lived around law enforcement members for quite some time, including a couple who have worked undercover like Luke so I was pleased to find out that the author did a great job researching for this book. Her storyline is as accurate as it can be for fiction of this kind. Meaning, there’s got to be a little suspension of disbelief when we’re talking about romance novels, right? Luke’s Redemption requires only a healthy amount of it. Even the few predictable parts make total sense and help move the story along.

As for character development, both main and secondary characters are believable and relatable. Although you won’t find yourself rooting for the bad guys, they’re quite realistic and well-written. Hence the ‘not-rooting-for-them’ part. LOL If I were to complain about anything, it would be the fact that every single person who works for King Security is top model material. However, Anni Fife has enough sense of humor to joke about it through Katya’s musings so I forgave her that. She was obviously aware of that characteristic and wished to write her characters like that. I respect it.

The settings are just perfect. I was a bit disappointed to leave New Orleans so soon into the book, as it’s one of my favorite places in the world. On the other hand, Anni did take me down memory lane as Katya and Michael (Don’t ask! I don’t do spoilers, sweetie. You’ll have to read it to understand. And you SHOULD read it. LOL) go around the city. When I was starting to feel sorry for having to leave NOLA, Anni took me to California and New York and I just couldn’t complain about the changes of scenery.

As for pace, you’ll be sitting on the edge of your chair as you read this and you’ll have trouble putting it down. I didn’t read it in a sitting because I started too late one night. Believe me, I would have if I had had the chance. A couple of my Grad school assignments are late because of Luke, but… it was worthy!

As a writer of erotic romance, I usually leave the best bit for last. Katya and Luke are HOT together – swoon-worthy, actually. It’s not easy writing good, sexy scenes yet Anni Fife nails it. Pun intended.

I recommend Luke’s Redemption to all romance readers who like their stories packed with action and tons of steamy, sexy scenes.
