EXCERPT

Beatriz hadn’t believed Tomás couldn’t surprise her more than he already had. She was wrong. “You and I will go to Hell for this.”

He grinned at her from across the narrow pool, his elbows resting on the edge, legs stretched out.

“I see no sin in bathing.” He gave her an innocent look. “Do you?”

She arched one eyebrow. “Is that what you call this?”

He’d posed her quite indecently, her legs parted and bent at the knees.

He sighed noisily. “I call this heaven.”

Even paradise couldn’t match the splendor of this moment or place. A soft breeze flowed through the airy room, ruffling the silk hangings, delivering sweetness from flowers, freshness from vegetation. Birds sang. Water slapped gently against stone.

Tomás’s peaceful mood matched her contentment.

She breathed deeply. “How can we return to work after this?”

“We always have your nights dusting.”

“Reading too and writing an epic poem about your grand adventures.”

“Are you glad we became friends?”

Her spirit would have died without him. Even with her newfound freedom, she’d found her future difficult to face. Having nothing to look forward to except toiling endlessly without hope for true happiness, constant worry about losing her position and not finding another, someone discovering who she really was and returning her to a man she loathed.

Tomás had changed everything for her, at least during this brief slice of time. When they finally parted, she’d have to move on alone, though she would be richer for having known him.

She pushed melancholy aside. “Indeed, I am. After being in service to you, I will never look at dusting the same way again.”

He laughed heartily and slapped the water, sending a wave in her direction. She squealed and did the same to him. They played like children, each trying to make the other wet, finally wrestling in the pool, their behavior boisterous and silly. She was no match for his strength. However, she did know how to pinch and twisted the skin on his ribs.

He yelped and pulled back, hands lifted. “I surrender before you draw blood.”

“A wise choice.” She clawed wet hair from her face. “Though I must say, you were an almost worthy opponent.”

Tomás hugged her fiercely. “You have to stop making me laugh so much.”

“Would you like another pinch?”

“A kiss.” He fitted his mouth to hers, his desire surprisingly tender and exploring, seeming to stop time.

Passionate Pursuit

by Tina Donahue

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Erotic Historical Romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

Andalucía Spain, 1489: Innocent Beatriz is desperate to escape the threat of a miserable marriage to a cruel Marquis. Forced into the betrothal by her ruthless merchant papá, her only hope is to conceal her identity and become a servant in a nearby castle—a life drastically different from her comfortable upbringing.

Tomás doesn’t know what to make of his well-spoken new servant girl. Her beauty and charm captivates the military hero; her mysterious nature intrigues him. And the desire she ignites burns brighter with each glance, as does his longing to claim her for his own.

Beatriz can’t resist Tomás’ passion nor deny the heat of her own. But neither the lush countryside nor the walls of the opulent Moorish castle can entirely protect her—and if he were to discover her secret, she could be torn away from him forever. Yet how can she sustain his love if she’s living a lie?

MY REVIEW

Coffee Cup On Wood Table At Sunset Or Sunrise Beach

5***** Steamy, intelligent historical romance

***I received a copy of this ebook in exchange for an honest review***

I like my historical fiction to be accurate and historical romance to be swoon-worthy. Passionate Pursuit is both. This is book 3 in a series, but it’s a standalone so you can start from here. I started with book 2 so I jumped at the opportunity to review this one as well.

Tomás explains the first two books quite well in the beginning of his own story. He tells Nuncio, his manservant, that both his brothers had married women for love but not after overcoming immense obstacles. Another given in historical romances.

However, this series has an additional characteristic that has great appeal to me: it’s an erotic historical romance trilogy. Being an avid reader and a writer of erotic stories myself, I have become a fan of Tina Donahue’s books. Passionate Pursuit has it all: laughter, romance, passion, perils, and steamy love scenes. My kind of story! LOL

Tina Donahue certainly did her research for this trilogy. She also expertly crafted an engaging story about a strong-willed and intelligent woman ahead of her time, who would rather reject her aristocratic upbringing than marry someone she despises just because her father tells her so. In 15th century Spain, that would be an amazing feat! Yet Beatriz chooses a life as a servant over an arranged marriage, and that’s how she finds love. More precisely, Tomás, her boss.

I also liked the fact that when the story begins, our hero already knows he’s fallen for the heroine. That was refreshing; although, it didn’t mean they would have it easy. After all, he doesn’t know Beatriz’s real background so, despite his strong attraction, Tomás doesn’t want to ruin her reputation, and Beatriz wants to protect her real identity. That’s a recipe for disaster. Or blissful passion, which is what the reader actually gets from this amazing couple. LOL

I highly recommend Tina Donahue’s books if you haven’t already tried them.
