5 ***** Intensely dark, wickedly engrossing
I’m an avid reader of erotica but before I decide to buy anything, I read reviews. I usually begin by reading the one-star reviews because depending on the kind of complaints I know what kind of kink to expect. Funny enough, most of the time the one-star reviews convince me to read a book because, let’s face it, there’s just too many prudes out there. LOL
Another constant for me is finding people who don’t understand the difference between erotica and sensual or erotic romance. Hint – if the book is in the erotica category in the online store, expect it to be filled with sexual content. If the blurb says ‘dark’ expect to find strong and often controversial topics. As an erotica writer myself, I felt for the author when I read so many comments from people complaining there wasn’t enough romance in Owned and that sex drove most of the story. It made me wonder if these people realize the book is under the Erotica category.
Regarding the story itself, I emphatically recommend you don’t start reading this book if you won’t have time to finish it in one sitting because you will try to. I mean, it’s a page-turner so you’ll need to be available. Don’t do like me and start reading it late at night. I almost didn’t hear the alarm going off the next morning. LOL As for the characters, I like my heroines to be smart-ass and independent, strong-willed and intelligent. Ellie is all of that and some more. Alpha males are my downfall and I prefer them dark and secretive. Kayne is all that plus drop-dead gorgeous. Their chemistry is scorching hot and the sex scenes are intense and very well-written. There is enough suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat. All these reasons combined makes Owned so much better than a certain famous trilogy about a billionaire and a wide-eyed, fresh-out-of-college young woman that I thought the reviews I read comparing them were unfair. There’s no comparison because Owned in much superior.
Finally, the book’s subtitle clearly states this is the first in a series and, although I prefer series made of standalone books, I don’t mind a good cliffhanger when I know I’ll soon get to read the end of the story, which is the case with this one since the three books have already been published and they’re relatively short ones.

Ellie Stevens has lusted over Kayne Roberts since he first walked into the import/export company she works for a little over a year ago. Impulsively, Ellie invites Kayne to one of Expo’s infamous company parties her flamboyant boss is notorious for throwing. Unbeknownst to Ellie, the god in the Armani suit isn’t just the suave entrepreneur he portrays himself to be. In a hidden corner of a trendy New York City lounge, the spark kindling between the two of them ignites. Unable to resist the sinful attraction, Ellie agrees to leave with Kayne, believing she is finally bedding the man of her dreams. Never resides in New York City. When she’s not researching ways to tie up her characters in compromising positions, you can usually find her at the gym kicking the crap out of a punching bag, or eating at some new trendy restaurant.
She has a dependence on sushi and a fetish for boots. Fall is her favorite season.
She is surrounded by family and friends she wouldn’t trade for the world and is a little in love with her readers. The more the merrier. So make sure to say hi!
